The Tennessee Aquarium Expansion
- Ocean Journey
DESCRIPTION
March Adams provided all of the
engineering services for the expansion (e.g. civil,
structural, mechanical, electrical, life support and fire
protection). The expansion consists of a new 60,000 square
foot "sister" building located east of the
existing aquarium. Main features of the new
aquarium are hands-on exhibits, such as touch tanks,
a butterfly aviary and a 500,000 gallon salt-water
tank. The expansion opened in May 2005.

PROJECT
Virginia Marine
& Science Center, Virginia Beach, VA
DESCRIPTION
A
$17.8 million renovation. We provided civil,
structural, mechanical, electrical and life support
engineering design services. This project consisted
of several exhibit renovations and exhibit additions,
while maintaining the same square footage.
The outdoor wilderness exhibit, the Chesapeake Bay
tank were renovated and the Ray tank was renovated and
moved to another location in the facility. The new
exhibits consist of a Red Sea aquarium, a Komodo dragon
exhibit and several various small animal and marine
exhibits. The retail store was also relocated and
enlarged

Chattanooga Zoo at Warner Park
DESCRIPTION
March Adams is currently in the
process of providing all of the engineering designs for
the complete campus renovation of the Chattanooga
Zoo. The 2006 renovation consists of adding several
new facilities including an administration building,
concessions, patron restrooms, a new gift shop and a
carousel.

PROJECT
The Tennessee Aquarium -
Off-Site Animal Care Facility |
| DESCRIPTION
Animals introduced into the
main aquarium facility are required to process through
the offsite quarantine/prep facility. This 9,000
square foot facility contains all the necessary tanks
and life support systems required to support the
animals being processed for time periods up to one
year prior to their introduction into the main
aquarium tanks. Life support equipment and
controls are identical to those of the main facility,
though on a smaller scale. Building HVAC,
plumbing and electrical systems are designed to handle
the life support systems as well as the building
envelope. Communications systems for the life
support monitoring and alarm are connected to the main
facility via the internet.
